A Commissioner in the Akwa Ibom State Judicial Service Commission, Rt. Hon. Bassey Dan-Abia Jnr has said that Governor Udom Emmanuel should appoint politicians, not technocrats into the soon-to-be-constituted State Executive Council.
The former Member of the Federal House of Representatives who stated this during an interview in a private radio station in Uyo, said that that the permanent Secretaries are already technocrats, hence the governor should appoint politicians into various commissionership positions.
“The Permanent Secretaries, the Directors and the various heads of the directorate of government are technocratic enough. The appointment of commissioners is a political appointment. So I believe that what is required is to have politicians of proven records, politicians of integrity, and politicians with expansive grassroots network.
“We also need people who are extremely benevolent, people that are charitable, people that are good natured, people that can interact with the grassroots. We need people who are altruistic. People that will help the government build for the next generation. But at the end of the day, it is purely the prerogative of the governor. He needs the best hands but it should be a combination of factors. I believe so much in this government, I see the direction of this government, and the governor needs lieutenants in the exco that will help realize his industrialization agenda”, Abia said.
